Gashaw Gebeyehu Wolde was born in 1961 in Nazareth, Ethiopia and educated at the Addis Ababa University Faculty of Technology where he graduated with a BSc Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1984. He pursued post graduate education at the Central Institute of Tool Design Hyderabad, India from 1986-1988 and graduated with PGTD in Mechanical Engineering Tool Design. He studied further Business Administration and graduated with an MBA from the Open University of the United Kingdom, Milten Keyens in 1998.
His career spans over twenty years of technical and managerial work for the government and various international organizations in the management of industrial development projects and industrial support institutions, development and management of regulatory programme for radiation protection and safety, cleaner production and environmental services and development, coordination and management of international cooperation projects and programmes.
He has served in several senior managerial positions including, General Manager of the Engineering Design and Tool Enterprise, General Manager of the National Radiation Protection Authority, Director of the Ethiopian Cleaner Production Centre, National Programme Coordinator of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization integrated programme for Ethiopia and Senior Specialist in the Business Environment, Agriculture and Trade Bureau of the USAID Ethiopia.
He has also worked as a consultant for the World Bank in the Evaluation of Development Cooperation Projects.
He joined the IAEA in March 2007 and since then has been working as Programme Management Officer responsible for the overall management and implementation of TC projects in various countries such as Angola, Botswana and Tanzania. In addition, he is also responsible for two regional projects related to Strengthening National Regulatory Infrastructure for the Control of Radiation Sources and Development of Technical Capabilities for the Protection of Health and Safety of Workers Exposed to Ionizing Radiation. He is also managing one AFRA project related to treatment of common cancers.
