Mickel Edwerd was born in Cameroon. He has a Masters degree in International Public Law from the University of Yaoundé, Cameroon. He pursued his postgraduate education at the University of Vienna, Austria and the University of Bristol, UK and graduated with a Ph.D. in International Relations and Economic Development.

His professional career in the management of technical cooperation programmes started at the Headquarters of a regional organization, the Central Bank of Central African States (BEAC) in Yaoundé, Cameroon where he was responsible for the technical management of a joint World Bank project aiming at establishing a system of payments in the CEMAC sub-region.

After completing his postgraduate degree he started his career with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) where he worked as an Executive Assistant to the Director of the Division for Operations and Analysis where he was responsible to provide assistance to the Director in monitoring the work of four regional divisions in the areas of project management, financial and human resource administration and act as a policy and strategic advisor to the Director. He also worked in the Africa and Middle East Section, UNODC Headquarters in Vienna where he was responsible for the coordination, implementation and monitoring of projects/programme activities in the West Africa region.

In 2000, he was reassigned to the UNODC Regional Office for Eastern Africa in Nairobi, Kenya as Programme Officer in charge of the development, implementation and monitoring of technical cooperation projects and programmes.

In 2003, he was reassigned to the UNODC Regional Office for West and Central Africa in Dakar, Senegal as Regional Project Coordinator where he was responsible for the overall management of a substantial programme portfolio involving ECOWAS and ECCAS member states in social reintegration, sustainable livelihoods and economic recovery. Thus his work at TC enables him to bring a solid background in all aspects of project management.

He joined the IAEA in April 2007 and since then has been working as Programme Management Officer responsible for the overall management and implementation of TC projects in various countries such as Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire and Mali. In addition, he is also responsible for three AFRA projects on livestock nutrition and reproduction, nuclear medicine and medical physics and one regional project on radiation protection related to emergency preparedness and response.
